A Little Introduction
Hi, I’m Laura – and here I am with my two “Little Babas,” a nickname I’ve always used for my daughters, Georgia (my eldest) and Estie (my youngest). These two girls are my whole world and the driving force behind this dream. They inspire me every day to step out of my comfort zone and chase things I never thought possible.
After having Georgia nearly 10 years ago, and then welcoming Estie in September 2024, I quickly realised how little there is in our area for parents with newborns. As someone who doesn’t drive, I found it especially hard to access spaces further afield – and during those early months, I really needed somewhere to go, not just for me, but for Estie too.
That’s where Little Babas was born – a warm, welcoming place for new parents, grandparents, childminders, and anyone caring for little ones aged 0–18 months. A space where you can relax, connect, and feel at ease in both our sensory play area and our cosy café.
Why Sensory Play Matters for Babies (0–18 Months)

Why Sensory Play Matters for Babies (0–18 Months)
In the first 18 months of life, a baby’s brain is growing faster than at any other time. One of the most important ways to support this early development is through sensory play—activities that engage your baby’s senses: touch, sight, sound, smell, and movement.
At our core, we believe that play is more than just fun—it’s the way babies learn about their world. Here’s why sensory play is so essential during these early months:
1. It Boosts Brain Development
Every new texture, sound, and color your baby experiences helps form important brain connections. Sensory play lays the foundation for learning, problem-solving, and communication later in life.
2. It Builds Motor Skills
From reaching and grasping to crawling and cruising, sensory play encourages babies to move and explore. These movements support the development of coordination, balance, and muscle strength.
3. It Sparks Curiosity and Confidence
When babies are free to explore sensory-rich environments, they become more curious and confident. Whether it’s squishing soft dough, splashing water, or shaking a rattle, these small discoveries are big wins for growing minds.
4. It Strengthens Bonds
Sensory play is also a time for connection. Singing songs, playing peekaboo, or exploring textures together helps strengthen the bond between babies and their caregivers—and supports emotional development too.
5. It Supports Communication
Long before they can speak, babies use sounds, gestures, and expressions to communicate. Sensory play encourages these early forms of expression and helps lay the groundwork for language skills.
Every squish, splash, giggle, and gaze is a step in your baby’s development. At our sensory play space, we create safe, engaging environments where babies can explore, connect, and thrive.
